About the Gamestar article:
Gamestar is really impressed about the graphic. I'll translate one important sentence:
"At the moment Arcania looks as good as Crysis"

- iks
Wow! That's great! But we will need quite a good PC to run it with the highest settings, don't forget that Arcania will be a far more complex game than a sandbox FPS like Crysis. Also, maybe that bug you mentioned could be one of the new monsters,

But there is one artwork of Lester, so it seems like he will appear in Arcania.

Some news about the game:
  • The world is called "Argaan", biggest cities are "Thorniara" and "Setarrif".
  • There is more than one island.
  • There is war at Argaan, because of a cursed king (probably the old Nameless Hero, but that is still unsure)
  • You'll be able to resolve some quest in more then just one way.
  • The graphic is amazing.

- iks
Thanks again iks

The world named Argaan..hmm sounds interesting

And it seems that there are only 2 big cities ( like SB said )

And the new infos are cool

Yep, curious names indeed, specially Thornianra and Setarrif, they sound very fantastic and magic. Like old school RPGs.
EDIT: Maybe I should change my nickname to ArgaanGuy, if I could. LOL

Argen sounds better imo

Yes the names are unique and odd in the same time ( in time we'll find out more about the world and it's components )

And about the culture of its inhabitants. They said that it will have a greater focus on magic, I think that this means that we'll see more magic in the game, and not that we will only use magic and weapons at all.
Remember that guys like Abuyin (though he looked and sounded more from Varant) were a very magical one, he was a seer, remember.

Maybe in the Southern Isles, now called Argaan, they use magic or some sort of special power in combat, like the Jedi and their force powers. All I want is that the game's fighting system will be great and even better than the G1-2 one, no matter is they use magic to do special, flamboyant attacks.

Does it say something about the actual size of the cities?
Maybe some comparison with Khorinis from Gothic 2?

Argaan somehow reminds me of one plant. But others can be really easily identified. Thornianra seems to come from the name of Thor ( the Nordic god of thunder ), maybe the mages from that city specialize in thunder magic . Setarrif somehow imho resembles the Seraph ( a class of angels ) word. So maybe the mages from that town specialize in clairvoyance or divine magic.

Maybe, since that game will have a greater focus on magic.
Off-Topic data: There's a city in Somalia called Argaan.

What can I say, thanks again. You are most helpful, and Xenon too.
Let's see the info you brought:

Gothic 4: There is a new name!

Some news from the Games Convention!
JoWooD and Spellbound changed the name from Gothic 4: Arcania to Arcania: A Gothic Tale.

As reason JoWooD mentioned marketing purposes - Arcania will be released worldwide, but most of the international press has rated former Gothic games badly. With a new name and a new developer Arcania is ready to provide a satisfying game for the fans.
I knew it, that the name chages was only for marketing purposes. But the game itself will be a Gothic.

About fighting system and impressive graphic
Written by iks

Not only the new name was revealed at the Games Convention, but also first hand information about gameplay mechanics and wonderful graphics.
At the moment big online magazines are full of praising Spellbound's graphics skills. The journalists are especially stunned by the weather effects:
Rain gathers itself in puddles, which will vaporize if the sun is shining. Rain drops are running the roofs down. Covered areas e.g. canopies remain dry.
The printed magazine Gamestar compared Arcania: A Gothic Tale to Crysis and said that it looks as good as the first person shooter.

Also new information concerning the long-range combat system were released: It will be on an equal level with close-combat and magic. That means that a long-combat skilled hero will be able to pass the whole game without problems.
If you fight with a bow, there'll be a little crosshair which slowly moves up and down simulating the breathing of our hero. A hit enemy will react differently depending on the area he got hurt. For instance, a blow in the neck will cause the enemy to press a hand against his throat, or a blow in the knees will cause the enemy to collapse.
There are also improvements regarding the damage calculation: A headshot will cause critical damage, by contrast to a hit in the arm.
So, summarizing, the long range combat will be basically an update from the G3 one. Right? It combines RPG (more skilled, less aim swashing) with FPS features (different body zones damage calculation by using physics).

Yeah, I think so. Maybe EDL could say more to this.
But in my opinion the long-range-combat fighting system, was the best thing of Gothic 3, so it is okay to improve it and use it for Arcania.
