Windows XP
Geforce 2 Ul;tra GTS with latest drivers
SB live lastest drivers
lastest directx.

The game installed fine, when i went to run it, it does'nt do anything but spin the cd in the drive. Theres no proceeses for it in teh task manager either, i've also tried installing the lastest patch from teh german website. I have the english version of the game. I hate wasting money on games that dont ship working. You should test your games better.

Three possible problems

1. people are experiencing problems running games with xp

2.latest directx drivers arnt the best choice try version 7

3. you cannot use a german patch on an english version of this game or any other game for that matter .uninstall and reinstall the game and wait for the english version patch to be released.

Hope that helps.....IBXSV

I have Win XP as well, but I can at least load up the game. When I load up the game, I hear a strange "popping" sound from my speakers constantly. But after I select a character and try to start up the game, it crashes to the desktop.

My system is:

Pentium 4 1.4GHz
Asus P4T
GeForce 2 Pro (with latest XP drivers)
Soundblaster Audigy (with latest drivers)
Directx 8.1 (comes with Win XP)

I hope a patch comes soon or I'll have to return the game. :(

Ok... it's not direct x doofus, 8.0a is backwards compatibel, it uses the same base code. I'm a 3d animator for Aestus games. This game is absolute crap. The german patches would work, they dont change any of the art assets, or the text, just the game engine executable. Computer code is written int eh same language no matter what country it's developed in. If the patches specifically altered game text, which they dont from what i've seen, then I could'nt use this. There are 3 patches out for the german version, it takes a day to port it to english, these lazy bastards should have debugged thier code correctly in the first place. I'm not going to play games that are not compatible with the latest technology, nor will 90% of gamers out there. I'm not downgrading my system for a game that was'nt tested. Pool of radience had teh same problems, but they were solved within a few days. Obviously they held no beta test on machines other than thiers.

Hello inferris!

The described effects look like some problem with the copy protection. We hope that we can offer a version with an improved copy protection next week, but this version is still in the test.
Hm, well, and I have not really a good explanation why the German version runs on your machine. The copy protection is the same. :)

what people are saying about directx 8

1....it caused numerous bugs and crashes, that can only be
attributed to installing directx 8, movies play choppier now. Warning!!

2.DirectX 8A is kinda like Windows Me........it should have never made it out of Beta......and it keeps crashing

3.Things are still operational after installing directx 8, but movies play choppier now. Warning to all out there that plan to install Star Trek Dominion Wars, ...this program forces the install of directx 8. Not good! If I had of known this, I would have not installed it. I am going to work on uninstalling directx 8 now, then reinstall directx 7. Wish me luck.

4.It sucks, doesn't work with my Voodoo4 4500 agp. Crashed my computer running anything using direct3d!! I have certified drivers for it too and DX8a didn't recognize them. I uninstalled it (yes that's possible) and put DX7 and my computer runs perfect. Why upgrade when games don't support it anyway?

5. if you're running a GeForce graphics board, and you're running DirectX before v8, you are only running half your card!!!

6. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS!!! IT HAS DISABLED ALL MY GAMEPLAY ON XP and WIN2K. On installation, check your dxdiag.exe file. All accelerations are permanently disabled on many (not all) PCs and - of course - dx8 can't be removed without serious risk to your OS. Re-installing W2K using the "upgrade" path is one of the few remedial actions available. Not all systems suffer with dx8 but it is bloody risky!

the list goes on and on..thanks for your time....Doofus

You obviouisly don't get it, and you obviously can not read. Direct X has nothing to do with it. I'm a game developer, i work with about 4 versions of it everyday for compatibility reasons. You obviously have some other problem releated to your video and or sound card. make sure they are not sharing the same irq, make sure your pci device selection is on automatic, and you let the operating system take care of the sharing. If you dont download teh latest direct x, dont expect to be playing very many new games soon. Just because you cannot proporly diagnose your tech problems, does'nt mean you hae to blame it on superficial rumors. Direct X is nothing more than a library of API calls. Direct x is not a program, and engine, or any kind of "player." It's a database of multimedia functions meant to speed up development by giving direct access to all the devices through one language. Problems with direct x games are directly associated with hardware or the software manufactuer.

You are a complete idiot to think it has anything to do with your operating system. It's not even a program. I get paid to work with it, I've run around it everyday of my life, for the last 2 years. It does not cause crashes, your hardware configuration does. Direct X is the most thoughorly tested peice of software to date. There are millions of beta testers per each version, in cluding extensive in house testing. I dont se why ignorant people like you should have the privlegde to play any modern game. Get your snotty childish attitude out of your ass and buy a book on pc repair, you obviously need it. Direct X can only disable hardware acceleration if a proper card is not detected, maybe you got ripped off, maybe your just stupid. It does not default to disabled acceleration. You have to change about 4 lines of code for it to default to no hardware acceleration.

"99% of the movies you watch are software decoded, and wont touch your video card acceleration features, a 486 can play divx, you've got serious problems. Or a cheap card.

2.DirectX 8A is kinda like Windows Me........it should have never made it out of Beta......and it keeps crashing

"Sure, lets stop technology all together while your at it. God forbid you whine about not being able to solve your own problems. If you dont like it don't use it, buy a mac. When you can write a better operating system, then I may listen to you. Windows Me can not be compared to an API library, it's like comparing apples, to a car."

"you must dramatize everything in your life, hit the add/remove programs button, and just follow those easy things called directions. And I hope you enjoy playing older games for the rest of your pc days. Again movies have nothing to do with directx speed, they are rarely called by anything other than directshow, or direct draw, from within games, then are respectivly decoded by the appropriate codec, which are 99% software based."

"Actually voodoo4 cards lacked the ability to parse a texture size above 256x256, thats why they had tendencies to crash, again not direct x. Certified drivers have nothing to do with anything, certified means microsoft recognises them as compatible with your current operating system, you can certify any driver with the correct comannd prompt usage. Perhaps you should update your agp bus drivers.

5. if you're running a GeForce graphics board, and you're running DirectX before v8, you are only running half your card!!!

"and....no. I dont know where your getting this from but it's absolutly false. Direct x has 0.0005% speed impact on a video card built before it's release. Older cards dont have new features to impliment into later versions, hence. The video drivers are what affects the speed. All my machines have geforce cards, always have, always will. Benchmarks show my speed is not halved, lol...

"Actually xp pro, and win2k were not meant to be used as a gaming platform, so just because you think your being leet by having an advanced operating system installed is your problem. What are you like 15-16? Win2k is a client server operating system, not a game OS. You want games, go back to XP home, or ME/98. And there is no risk to your os when uninstalling anything, that is if your not a complete idiot.

the list goes on and on..thanks for your time....Doofus

You obviously have issues, I'm 29, i've been 3d modeling for 5 years, programming for 2, and professionally developing for 2. I am the source, I am the facts as you call them. And by the way, direct-x 9.0 will shortly be out, so upgrade or get left behind, fix your kmart pc and quit blaming something you know nothing about.

and... psstt, your pc is not the center of the universe, people will not base api's or engines on your pc un-intellect, they base it on numbers and facts, which you have 0 (zero) of.

People... such tones! What would the moderator think, if there was one around here.

inferris - buggy games tick us all off, otherwise I wouldn't be browsing this forum, but bragging about your credentials and calling names ain't civil

ibxsv - Voodoo's are sooooo yesterday (of course, all I've got is an ATI Rage Fury, so who am I to talk, eh?)

Now, we can try to get along, or you can just flame the crap out of me for butting in. Either way, I'm henceforth not involved.
