Can't load the game after the first time playing

Will I installed the game fine. And played the game for a bit.

Next time I tried to play. I have been unable to load the game.

The screen just flickers a bit and drops me back to the desktop. No intro. Nothing.

Help?

hi annelid,

have you tried to reboot your computer? - and if that didnt help try to MOVE all the files from the \SAVE\ dir to a safe place and try to load the game again - if the loading was succesful quit the game and copy your savegamefiles back to the \SAVE\ dir and try again. dunno if that helps but i'd try it if i had this probelm ;)

No. I fixed it by going into the setup wizard and using the repair option.

Basically just reinstalled the files. Kept the savegames.

I shut down the computer. Booted up later today and now I can't get Gorasul to run again. I guess I have to run the install wizard again. What do I have to do? Install the game again using the repair option just to play the game when I want to.

hmmm,
what OS are you running and do you have problems with other applications/games too? have you checked for virii, installed the latest video & chipset drivers? a reinstallation of the game after each reboot sure isn't right.

sounds weird.

run dxdiag and check each tab. look at the bottom under notes. see if there is any negative reference to "gorasul.exe"

are you running DX8? that's required for this game. actually i would recommend 8.0a or 8.1 because 8 is just plain weird. bg2 gave me no end of problems under 8, but in 7 or 8.0a it was fine.

I'm running Windows ME and Dx8a.

Seems like a registry problem to me.

No problems with other programs. Hell even Pool of Radiance 2 works for the most part. ;)

Running a p3 1ghz
512meg ram
Intel motherboard using the i815 chipset
Sblive! v4.12.01.0801
Geforce2 v4.13.01.1241
windows ME
DirectX 8.0a
Installed the game on d:\games\rpg\gorasul\
Using the typical install option.
Full install didn't help.

Did you install the latest patch ? You can get it at www.Gorasul.com.

There is also a new driver available for your video card. -> Detonator v23.11 at www.nvidia.com

can you give us a direct link to the patch? because its not visible if you browse through the site - and what version is it - 1.01? and will that fix the witch/bandits/not bug near the end?

I believe 1241 or 2181 were the latest drivers for this build of the game and neither changed anything.

I'm not having a video problem. After installing. I can play the game fine. As many times as I want.

But after shutting down windows. I can't play the game again. I have to reinstall using the repair option in the installation wizard.

Edit: Sigh. I've upgraded dx8a to dx8.1 and am running the 23.11 drivers. Still no change.

can i ask you something else? i know this is tremendously frustrating for you, and i am really sorry you're experiencing this problem.

~are you trying to open the game using the desktop icon?
~have you tried going into the game files directly, and using the exe to start the game?

my thinking on that is maybe, because your installation isn't in the default directory, the "target" addy in your shortcut could be messed up.

it also sounds like something somewhere is interfering with your registry settings for the game. :(

soooo, on that note, have you considered, what with all your installing, maybe letting it go to the default directory and seeing if it still happens?

I found a workaround. Get this.

After a fresh boot. I have to load some other game and exit out of it prior to playing Gorasul.

active copy protections are nothing but a pain in the butt ;/

you're kidding!?! i'm not even gonna try to figure out how that one works, because i'd prolly jinx it for you.

so, play a round of POR2, think "yuckers!" and then happily switch over to Gorasul!

anyways, i am TOTALLY happy to hear that you don't have to install everytime you want to play now.

Are you talking about some kind of no-cd patch?

it's nothing illegal about it IF you own the original game - and it may eliminate those weird problems.

I have the exact same problem , I re-install Gorasul and it works great until I either re-boot or exit out. I've tried the fixes you listed in the forum but to no avail. Any other suggestions?

I've not seen a fix posted yet??!!
